A group of Roma were detained for fraud involving payments to participants from Sverdlovsk in the special military operation.

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, reported on her Telegram channel that police from the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions, together with officers of the regional directorate of the FSB of Russia, have suppressed the activities of an ethnically based organized group specializing in the theft of payments intended for participants in the special military operation (SMO).

According to preliminary data, the perpetrators organized a criminal business to recruit candidates for military service and send them to the SMO zone in order to appropriate one-time payments, including those due to relatives in the event a service member was wounded or killed.

As a result, an investigator of the Serious Crimes Unit of the Main Investigation Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry for the Chelyabinsk region has opened a criminal case. Seven suspects have been placed in custody. Searches were conducted at their places of residence: three cars, about 60 mobile phones, bank cards and SIM cards were seized.

The portal 74.ru clarifies that the detainees are Roma. Their victims were men leading asocial lifestyles.

Earlier we reported how in Yekaterinburg an 18-year-old young man went to the SMO while under the influence of fraudsters.
