A woman from Yekaterinburg managed to beat all her opponents at the World Championship.
Yekaterinburg native Leya Garifullina, as part of the Russian national team, won the Women's World Team Championship in Linares. Notably, the Russian athletes did not lose a single match throughout the tournament, said Andrey Filatov, president of the Russian Chess Federation.
"Victory at the World Team Championship without a single match defeat is a huge achievement of our athletes and coaching staff, and also a testament to our strength. I congratulate our team on their willful victory in this most difficult competition and wish everyone further success!" TASS quotes Filatov as saying.
The squad includes several athletes from across Russia: Alexandra Goryachkina, Ekaterina Lagno, Polina Shuvalova, Anna Shukhman, Olga Girya and Yekaterinburg native Leya Garifullina.
Earlier it was reported that coach from Yekaterinburg Dmitry Myagkov became the Russian padel champion.
