Karpov's wife testified against her nephew, URA.RU editor Allayarov.
A relative of Ura.ru editor Denis Allayarov, the wife of his uncle, former head of the criminal investigation unit of Police Precinct No. 10 Andrey Karpov, Yulia, testified as a witness in the case of the journalist accused of giving a bribe to her husband, reports "Ъ-Урал".
Yulia Karpova said that she received three money transfers from Denis Allayarov totaling 70,000 rubles. She in turn forwarded this money to her husband, head of the criminal investigation unit of Police Precinct No. 10, Andrey Karpov.
Yulia Karpova refused to answer questions from Denis Allayarov's lawyer about whether her husband received transfers from the journalist E1.RU (according to the defense, Evgeny Koshek also transferred money to Karpov through Yulia). The judge dismissed these questions as unrelated to the criminal case.
Denis Allayarov opposed the reading of witness testimony by his grandmother, Karpov's mother (at the prosecutor's request, since the witness could not be present at the hearing in person). According to Denis, Karpov could have threatened his mother that if she did not give the required testimony, he would be sent to a penal colony and from there go to the special military operation, writes "Ъ-Урал".
Denis's lawyer was paid by the agency URA.RU, but since November 27 the latter changed owners and the employment contract with Allayarov became invalid, the outlet reports.
Recall that the criminal case against Denis Allayarov is being heard in the Verkh-Iset District Court. The journalist denies the charge of giving a bribe of 120,000 rubles to Karpov as an official (Part 3 of Article 291 of the Russian Criminal Code) in exchange for providing him with operational reports.
Karpov, accused of receiving a bribe and exceeding his official powers, pleaded guilty in full. He gave incriminating testimony against his nephew; his case was considered in a special procedure.
Later the prosecution appealed the sentence, deeming it too lenient, but subsequently withdrew the appeal, reports "Ъ-Урал". The sentence — four years' suspended imprisonment — came into force, the press service of the courts of the Sverdlovsk Region reported on Wednesday, December 24.
