Five buses were destroyed by fire at a Sverdlovsk bus depot
January 9, 2026. In Alapaevsk, a fire at a bus depot destroyed five buses.
According to local residents, the incident occurred back on December 24, 2025.
"A further two buses are being prepared for repair. Because of this other routes are overcrowded, but they are still running," a local woman told Ura.Ru.
The Sverdlovsk Oblast Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire at the depot broke out at around five in the morning. They clarified that no one was injured in the fire.
Earlier we reported that an explosion at a furniture factory in Nizhny Tagil killed one person.

How is that possible? The buses were parked in a heated garage, the garage caught fire — then the buses? Modern buses supposedly don’t require garage storage even at very low temperatures. Well, even if they’ve been brought to such a state that they won’t start at a slight below-zero, then… By the rules, such garages must be equipped with fire alarms. The duty transfer driver makes a fire inspection every hour. The garage has several exits. No bus has any obstruction to leaving, all buses have keys in the ignition. If they were parked outside, there are even more questions. In parking lots without fire gaps, buses must be parked with the battery disconnected. Warming up or parking with the engine running is done either at a distance or under the constant supervision of the transfer driver. So a parked bus cannot catch fire by itself in principle.

The people who are supposed to know their jobs aren’t aware of any of that. Hence the result.

How is that possible? The people who are supposed to know their jobs aren’t aware of any of that. Hence the result. Not necessarily. It also happens that the mechanics deliberately do shoddy work. A representative of the lessor comes to you for an inspection, and the bus has been stripped to pieces. What are you supposed to do in that case? Just as an example. Every bus leaves the factory with a spare wheel (a full one, on a rim). The buses in the depot have tires worn out to bits. Worn so badly that even the most reckless drivers, even under threat of financial and other severe penalties, refuse to drive. But, having twelve buses, you can buy wheels for two buses only on paper, transferring the money to the wife’s brother. A wheel on a rim costs about 100,000 rubles. Of course, the highest trick would be to pin the missing spares on the drivers, but in a small town this risks damaging reputation and property. So they simply disappear. Autonomous heaters, monitors, cameras, first-aid kits can disappear as well. But the inspection arrived at an inopportune time.
