The former mayor of Sverdlovsk, who had recently resigned, has died.
Valery Eremeev, the former head of the Nizhneserginsky municipality, who left the post just two months ago, has died. His death was reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Sverdlovsk Region, Tatyana Merzlyakova, on her page on VKontakte.
According to the ombudsperson, she never managed to thank Valery Vasilyevich for his work. For example, she recalled an incident that occurred on September 1, when the district's funding was delayed. Without waiting for the funds to arrive, Eremeev personally took first-graders to a store where he bought them clothes and shoes.
"While the agencies were preparing reports, he simply helped — like a true steward of his territory," the ombudsperson wrote, adding that he often called her for advice, including on the employment of people at local enterprises.
Merzlyakova also noted how Eremeev acted during a flood, protecting the interests of the district's residents, and how he managed to preserve the teaching of subjects with elements of Tatar and Mari culture in three schools.
Valery Eremeev was 65 years old. In November 2025 he submitted his resignation from the post for "health reasons," Kommersant-Ural wrote. He had led the district since 2007.
