In the Urals, a defendant accused of pedophilia failed to appear in court for the sentencing.
The convict, who had been evading serving a sentence for a serious crime, was detained yesterday, January 14, in Sverdlovsk Region by operatives of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), the regional penitentiary department’s press service reported.
The convict, A., was on the federal wanted list for evading serving his sentence. On October 6, 2025, the Alapaevsk City Court found citizen A. guilty under part 3 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violent sexual acts against a minor) and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony. Citizen A. did not appear for the pronouncement of the verdict.
On Wednesday, January 14, operatives of the operational department of the FSIN of Russia for Sverdlovsk Region detained the wanted man.
The convict attempted to hide on the balcony of one of the buildings but was detained and taken to the temporary detention facility (IVS) of the Alapaevsky police department.
Earlier, operatives of the FSIN’s operational department had detained a second suspect in the same criminal case, who had also been declared wanted at the federal level.
