In the Shalinsky District of Sverdlovsk Region, an infant suffocated in his sleep while sleeping next to his father. A criminal case was opened against the man for causing death by negligence. He was sentenced to six months of corrective labor. This was reported by the press service of the courts of Sverdlovsk Region.

“In July of last year, a resident of the Shalinsky District, Alexander, laid his two-month-old son on a pillow, fed him, and then lay down next to him and fell asleep. During sleep the infant rolled over and buried his face in the bedding, blocking his airways,” the agency clarified.

In court the father pleaded guilty. Taking into account his remorse and the fact that he has other children dependent on him, he was given a sentence of six months of corrective labor with a 5% wage deduction. The mother of the deceased infant asked for the case to be dropped due to reconciliation between the parties, but the court denied her petition.
