      On April 9, 2026, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court held debates between the parties in the criminal case regarding the murder of a two-month-old child by his father, the press service of the regional courts reported in MAX.

      In October of last year, the defendant Oleg Mikhailitsyn was in his apartment in the evening with his wife and their two-month-old child. The baby was restless and crying, which irritated the man. Furthermore, according to the prosecution, Mikhailitsyn had doubts about whether he was indeed the child's father.

      The man inflicted at least six blows to the infant, as a result of which the baby died that same evening.

      "In court, the grief-stricken father argued that he was rocking his son and fell asleep himself, and the baby fell from his hands and was injured," the court's press service stated.

      The lawyer requested to reclassify the defendant's actions from the murder of a minor (paragraph "v" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) to causing death by negligence (part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and to impose a punishment on his client that was not related to isolation from society.

      The defendant himself did not admit his guilt in his final statement. He insisted that his son's death occurred as a result of falling from his hands and said that he loved his baby.

      During the debates, the prosecutor asked the court to impose a sentence of 18 years in a strict regime colony with a two-year restriction of freedom on Oleg Mikhailitsyn.

      The court retired to the deliberation room to deliver a verdict. The announcement of the verdict will take place on April 14.
