April 14, 2026. A measure of restraint in the form of detention has been chosen for 24-year-old Lexus driver Dmitry Garensky, the Sverdlovsk region prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday.
According to the investigation, on April 11, 2026, at about 18:30, Garensky, being intoxicated behind the wheel of a Lexus LX570 and moving along Kosmonavtov Avenue from Shefskaya Street towards Architect Bezrukov Street, failed to maintain constant control over the vehicle's movement and chose an unsafe distance. As a result of the accident provoked by the Lexus driver, a 30-year-old female BMW driver died from her injuries in the hospital. A minor child was in the back seat of her car, who is currently in the hospital in serious condition.
According to "Channel 4," the injured child has an open cranial injury, and doctors are fighting for his life.
As reported by "Channel 4," Garensky had previously lost his driver's license but later restored it. He had also been registered with a narcologist before.
The prosecutor in court stated the necessity of taking the accused into custody. He has previously been held administratively responsible 20 times for violating traffic rules in the Russian Federation. Furthermore, there are grounds to believe that Garensky may flee from the investigation and the court.
The police note that the accused is aggressive and does not engage in contact. During the court hearing on the measure of restraint, he hid his face and did not utter a word, "Channel 4" reports from MAX.
Considering the request of the investigative authorities and the prosecutor's conclusion, the Verkh-Isetsky District Court today, April 14, sent the accused into custody for a period of 2 months, until June 12, 2026, inclusive. For the charges under paragraphs "a" and "b" of part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, he faces up to 12 years in prison.
