In the Urals, the police stopped a monstrous violator in a VAZ using a "Kedr" machine gun.
On April 14, 2026, the police in the Serov district used the "Kedr" machine gun to stop a drunk driver. Before that, the intoxicated driver, who had no license, had engaged in a race, trying to evade a patrol car, reported Valery Gorelykh, press secretary of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region, to the Uralweb.ru portal. As it turned out later, the VAZ driver had his own, disgraceful reasons.
According to Colonel Gorelykh, an alarming signal from concerned citizens about a car spotted in the village of Klyuchevoy, whose driver was in a state of alcohol intoxication, was received at the duty station of the Serov police department at 21:43. The aforementioned "Lada" - a silver "VAZ-2109" - was soon identified during patrol by a traffic police unit. As is customary in such cases, the state traffic inspectors activated their flashing lights and, using a loudspeaker, demanded that the driver stop. However, the man behind the wheel of the "Lada" ignored the demand and continued driving along the "Serov - Severouralsk - Ivdel" highway towards Krasnoturinsk. A classic chase began.
"The driver with inadequate behavior was making constant dangerous maneuvers, futilely dreaming of covering his tracks to avoid punishment. He did not think about how much grief he could cause to ordinary law-abiding people, as happened recently in Uralmash, where a similar reckless driver, only in a 'Lexus', killed a girl and injured her child," noted Valery Nikolayevich.
The pursuit had been ongoing for over an hour when the extreme driving enthusiast suddenly turned back towards Serov. At that point, the inspectors decided to use their service firearms.
Choosing a suitable stretch of road for shooting, they first fired warning shots into the air from the "Kedr" submachine gun and PM pistol. When it became clear that there was no proper reaction, they opened aimed fire at the wheels. The predictable finale occurred at 23:05.
The reckless driver was arrested and is being held in custody.
"Fortunately, no one was injured. The violator's VAZ and the police 'Skoda Octavia' sustained mechanical damage from the collision, which can be repaired," Colonel Gorelykh noted.
The detained individual turned out to be a 31-year-old welder from a local firm named Solovarov, who did not have a driver's license. At the time of his arrest, the man showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication. A breathalyzer test showed 0.605 mg/l of exhaled air, which significantly exceeds the permissible limit.
Previously, he had already been subjected to administrative liability under part 1 of article 12.37 (Failure to comply with the requirements for mandatory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners - note Uralweb.ru) and part 1 of article 12.7 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (Driving a vehicle by a driver without the right to drive a vehicle - note Uralweb.ru).
Moreover, as it turned out during the investigation at the territorial police department, the owner of the "nine" has a whole "bouquet" of convictions, including for articles 158 ("Theft"), 166 ("Car theft"), 116 ("Beatings"), and 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Extortion").
Six administrative protocols have been drawn up against the violator: under part 3 of article 12.8 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation for driving a vehicle while intoxicated and without the right to drive; under part 2 of article 12.25 for failing to comply with the demand to stop; under part 2 of article 12.37 for lack of insurance; under part 3.1 of article 12.5 for tinting that does not meet requirements; under part 1 of article 12.15 for violating the rules for positioning a vehicle on the roadway; and also under article 19.3 for disobeying a lawful order of a police officer.
The reckless driver and his 23-year-old passenger will spend the next 14 days in custody, as investigators have grounds to suspect the detainees of another wild act, noted Colonel Gorelykh. A few hours before the chase with gunfire, they had a domestic conflict with a young woman, a local resident.
"She was brutally beaten, suffering multiple injuries and fractures. Then the victim of the attack was forcibly dragged out of her house onto the street and they attempted to place her in the trunk of the same unfortunate 'nine'. The materials collected on this fact have been sent by the Serov police for a procedural decision on initiating a criminal case with the Investigative Committee," summarized Valery Gorelykh.
