The cause of death of a Sverdlovsk resident who made the world's first run on the Dyatlov Pass has become known. On April 18, 2026, the cause of death of Denis Voron, an athlete from Yekaterinburg who was the first in the world to run on the Dyatlov Pass, was revealed. He passed away on April 13, just two days before his 44th birthday. He is survived by his mother and adult daughter.

Denis Voron was a master of sports in Russia in cross-country skiing and biathlon, a national champion in skiing, a winner of the Russian Cup in biathlon, and a prizewinner in mountain running. He worked as a coach at a fitness club in Yekaterinburg and led tourist groups. Despite his active lifestyle, in recent years the athlete complained about his health.

"He had problems with blood pressure, his eyes hurt. There are many hypertensives in our family; my grandfather died of heart issues. Denis took everything to heart, he was very nervous. Two years ago, he had a hypertensive crisis due to problems at work, and an ambulance was called," his mother Lyudmila Nikolaevna told KP-Yekaterinburg.

According to her, her son did not always take his medications regularly, only using them when his condition worsened. The last conversation with him took place a day before the tragedy. At that time, he complained of weakness in his legs but refused to call a doctor. The next day, Denis stopped responding. He was found in a rented apartment. Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of death was thrombosis against the background of hypertension, leading to ischemia.

One of his most notable achievements was the world's first solo run on the Dyatlov Pass. In 2013, he covered about 25 kilometers in 3 hours and 21 minutes. The route passed through difficult terrain, and he was accompanied by a team in a car.

"It was scary—mud, animals, but he made it," recalls the athlete's mother.
