Last week, 22 students from Gymnasium No. 116 in Yekaterinburg were diagnosed with salmonellosis, reports the press service of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Sverdlovsk Region.
The regional prosecutor's office previously reported on the inspection following complaints from at least 20 first and second-grade students of Gymnasium No. 116 who sought medical help due to vomiting and malaise.
"Salmonella spp. was identified as the causative agent of the infection in the 22 sick individuals. Specialists from the central Yekaterinburg department of Rospotrebnadzor found violations of the requirements for processing raw materials, inventory, and food preparation during an inspection of the food block (food organizer - LLC 'Appetite')," the Rospotrebnadzor Administration's message states.
The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg suspended the activities of the food block for 30 days.
Classes where cases of illness were registered have been moved to remote learning. Orders for disinfection and staff examination have been issued.
Epidemiological investigation is ongoing, and the situation remains under the control of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration.
Investigators from the regional Investigative Committee of Russia have initiated a criminal case for violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules (Article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
"The exact number of victims and the severity of harm caused to their health are being established. Other investigative and procedural actions are being carried out. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has instructed the acting head of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region, Nadbitov A.D., to report on the progress of the criminal investigation and the established circumstances," the Investigative Committee channel reports in MAX.
