The works of Wassily Kandinsky have been brought to Yekaterinburg.
Today, the exhibition "Color Sounds," dedicated to the work of Wassily Kandinsky, opened at the Museum of Architecture and Design of the Ural State Architectural and Art University.
The "Color Sounds" exhibition features over 50 original graphic works by the genius artist, including rare sheets from the series Klänge ("Sounds"), Regards sur le passé ("Memories of the Past"), as well as colorful lithographs and woodcuts from different periods. Some of the original graphics were published after the artist's death by his widow and heir, Nina Kandinskaya.
"The exhibition will showcase three of the most important periods of Kandinsky's work. One can trace how the artistic style of the great master of abstraction changed. Kandinsky was a synesthete, meaning he saw sound and heard color... This psychosomatic and personal characteristic of Kandinsky left a mark on all his work, which was far from unambiguously assessed by his contemporaries. In his opinion, color and sound interact with each other and influence the viewer's perception of the artwork," noted Pavel Bashmakov, the founder of Bashmakov Gallery, who brought this exhibition to Yekaterinburg.
The exhibition will run until July 26, 2026.
