A tourist from Yekaterinburg was injured by a shrimp that attacked him while he was swimming in the sea. The incident occurred with a 28-year-old Ural resident during his vacation in the Similan Islands in the Kingdom of Thailand, reports Mash.

Yekaterinburg resident Anatoly came to Thailand for a holiday. One day, during a boat trip, he jumped into the water from the boat, but just a minute later he had to climb back up with a severe leg bruise.

It turned out that he was attacked in the water by a mantis shrimp, also known as a stomatopod - a predatory marine crustacean. When threatened, these sea creatures swiftly attack humans at speeds of about 90 km/h and strike with their front limbs.

"The force of their strike is equivalent to a bullet shot (this is why the shells of mollusks, the shells of crabs, and even aquarium glass can break)," writes Mash.

Anatoly did not suffer a fracture; however, as noted in the publication, he faces a long recovery.
