The Lenin District Court of Orenburg has sentenced former Minister of Natural Resources and Property of the Orenburg Region Alexander Sambursky, who previously held the position of Deputy Minister for State Property Management of the Sverdlovsk Region.
The criminal case against Sambursky was initiated in 2024 shortly after his dismissal from the ministerial position, allegedly due to insufficient effectiveness. The former official is accused of receiving bribes in particularly large amounts.
According to the investigation and the court, the ex-minister received bribes in the form of a Lexus LX 570 car, a sofa worth over 190,000 rubles, gift cards from Moscow's TSUM totaling 300,000 rubles, as well as services for the installation of illumination in his parents' house, with a total value of nearly 495,000 rubles, reports the EAN agency.
Until the day of the verdict, the accused was first in a pre-trial detention center and then under a ban on certain actions. In his final statement, he limited himself to the phrase that he does not admit his guilt, notes EAN.
The Lenin District Court of Orenburg sentenced Alexander Sambursky to 9 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 28 million rubles. This is significantly less than the punishment requested by the state prosecutor for the defendant.
In addition, the ex-minister has been deprived of the right to hold positions in the civil service and local government for a period of 6 years.
Earlier in 2025, the Lenin District Court of Orenburg granted the civil lawsuit of the prosecutor's office for the seizure of his Mercedes-Benz car and nearly 69 million rubles, reports EAN. The seized amount is the value of the second car, an Audi, as well as illegally obtained income.
The lawsuit was prompted by Sambursky's financial expenditures when he was still a civil servant. According to the prosecutor's office, from 2022 to 2024, he spent nearly 20 million rubles on the living expenses of relatives in Israel. Together with his student sister, who was studying at a Moscow university on a commercial basis, they spent over 37 million on purchases in Moscow stores.
At the same time, it was known that Sambursky's parents are pensioners, and his father had previously been declared bankrupt due to a debt of 500,000 rubles.
The official's income during his work in the Orenburg region from 2019 to 2024 amounted to 24 million rubles. However, the family's expenditures in the two years preceding his arrest exceeded the income received by 48 million rubles.
Sambursky explained his financial well-being, as reported by EAN, to the court by a legacy left to him and his sister by their Israeli grandfather, amounting to one million dollars in cash, which they kept at home.
