"We live in a new reality." The FSB urged residents of Sverdlovsk to keep an eye out for suspicious individuals.
The official representative of the FSB of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region, Elena Dokuchaeva, spoke about the main safety rules at mass events during the May holidays in the program "Accent" on the air of the "OTV" channel. She urged citizens not to lose personal vigilance towards those around them, whose behavior raises suspicion.
Pay attention to the following signs:
- A person is trying to pass items, boxes, bags to strangers or leave them in a crowded place;
- Hides their face from cameras and those around them with a mask;
- Displays anxiety and concern.
"The main rule is to report your suspicions to law enforcement officers or event organizers. It is not advisable to shout loudly: this may provoke the criminal and create panic," advised Elena Dokuchaeva.
If you find an unattended item, do not touch, open, or move it, warns "Antiterror Ural." It could be a bag, backpack, box, toy, or package left unattended.
It is strictly forbidden to use a mobile phone near the item. Move to a safe distance (at least 50-100 meters, if the situation allows). Report the find to a police officer, security, or event organizer. Under no circumstances should you create panic by shouting "It's a bomb!" — this will provoke a stampede.
"We live in a new reality where we must generally regard everything happening around us with a bit of suspicion. This applies to both online communication and face-to-face interactions with strangers, especially if you are offered to receive or pass a gift," quotes the official representative of the FSB the "Antiterror Ural" channel in MAX.
The agency representative reminded that additional anti-terrorism security measures are being implemented in the region during the holidays. In some cases, full inspection measures are introduced for access to certain venues.
"We ask citizens to remain calm and understand these security measures," noted Elena Dokuchaeva.
To avoid injuries, stampedes, or panic in crowded places, it is important to follow safety measures:
Move in the direction of the crowd's movement. Keep your arms bent at the elbows and pressed to your chest — this will protect your ribs from compression. Place your feet flat on the ground.
There should be no hanging elements on your clothing and bags (scarf, hood, long bag strap, headphones — all of this should be tucked away, and the jacket should be fastened).
Keep children and loved ones in sight. In a dense crowd, a child can get lost in 10 seconds. The rules are strict here: hold a small child in your arms and do not let go. Take a photo of the child in the clothes they left home in — this way, you can quickly describe their appearance.
Be attentive to yourself and to those around you.
