In Yekaterinburg, a rehab center based on a former psychiatric hospital illegally "treated" teenagers with sandpaper.
The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, has requested a report on the progress of the investigation into the criminal case initiated regarding the violation of patients' rights at one of the rehabilitation centers (rehabs) in Yekaterinburg.
According to the publication "Evening Vedomosti," the incidents took place at the rehab for teenagers with addictions called "Free People," which recently opened in the medical town of the city psychiatric hospital No. 12 (Kontrolyorov Street, currently not functioning as a medical institution).
It is reported that staff allegedly used sandpaper to remove a tattoo from a 13-year-old boy, which he had self-applied with a needle on his finger while in rehab. The teenager developed an infection. Another teenage patient had a cut on his arm sewn up by a staff member using non-medical threads.
In both cases, no medical personnel were contacted. Moreover, the rehab does not have its own medical worker or medical office, nor does it have a license for medical activities, the publication notes.
Based on the facts presented, a criminal case has been initiated by the regional Investigative Committee of Russia under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Negligence), reports "Kommersant-Ural." The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has already requested a report on the progress of the investigation, according to the Investigative Committee.
