On the Sverdlovsk highway, a driver fell asleep at the wheel and fatally struck a young man who had exited his car to offer assistance.
On the Yekaterinburg - Nizhny Tagil - Serov highway, a fatal traffic accident involving three cars occurred. The accident happened at night on May 19 at the 193rd kilometer of the road near Krasnouralsk.
According to preliminary information from the State Traffic Inspectorate, a 66-year-old driver of a Lada Granta, traveling towards Serov, crashed into a broken-down Opel Astra that was parked on the roadside. After that, the car collided with a Lada Vesta parked ahead, whose driver had stopped to assist the participants of the breakdown.
The impact threw the Opel Astra and a nearby pedestrian into the ditch. The deceased was a 25-year-old resident of Kachkanar - he had previously been in the Lada Vesta. The man died at the scene from his injuries.
A 27-year-old female passenger of the Opel Astra was also injured in the accident. The woman, also a resident of Kachkanar, was hospitalized with injuries.
According to inspectors, the driver of the Lada Granta is a resident of the Chelyabinsk region with 47 years of driving experience. Testing showed that he was sober at the time of the accident. It has been preliminarily established that the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel due to fatigue.
Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate and an investigative operational group worked at the scene. All circumstances of the accident are currently being established.
The regional State Traffic Inspectorate reminded drivers of the necessity to make stops for rest at the first signs of fatigue and drowsiness at the wheel.
