Ural researcher Valentin Degterev has voiced a new version of the disappearance of the Usoltsov family
May 29, 2026 The family of Usoltsovs, who disappeared without a trace in the taiga of the Krasnoyarsk region, may have been poisoned by carbon monoxide, writes "Lenta.ru". As another version, Ural researcher Valentin Degterev suggested a bear attack.
The specialist suggested that the travelers might have climbed into a crevice where they lit a fire and died from carbon monoxide. Additionally, as he claims in a conversation with aif.ru, the Usoltsovs could have been harmed by a bear.
The expert pointed out that in a photo from the search that took place in October 2025, he noticed a person in the crevice. Volunteers allegedly ignored this detail.
"In this crevice, there was a person; the human face is clearly visible. Plus, there is a tree with bear tracks," Degterev explained.
The search for spouses Irina and Sergey and their five-year-old daughter resumed on May 23. An autonomous group of searchers from the "LisaAlert" squad is working on-site, consisting of a coordinator, a radio operator, a drone operator, an analyst, and a cartographer, writes "Lenta.ru".
Volunteers are inspecting areas that were not surveyed in winter due to the large amount of snow.
Earlier, retired Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Oleg Ivannikov suggested in a conversation with aif.ru that poachers—hunters who hunt without a license—might have dealt with the missing family. He did not rule out the possibility of unintentional murder, where a person in the thicket could have been mistaken for an animal, and called for a thorough examination of this version.
