A new concert hall for the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic may be built in Yekaterinburg in a few years.
The chairwoman of the Board of the Union of Concert Organizations of Russia, Olga Khomova, called the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic a "beacon" and a "guideline" for the entire industry. However, in the coming years, it will not be possible to build a new philharmonic hall.
The Minister of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Region, Ilya Markov, confirmed that the project is in the stage of refinement. The land plot has been transferred to the philharmonic, and the cost documentation is being updated in light of changes in legislation.
— "It is obvious that without support from federal resources, it is extremely difficult to implement the project," the minister is quoted by Ura.Ru.
The director of the philharmonic, Rustem Khasanov, added that the team dreams of completing the construction by the 100th anniversary of the institution.
Let us remind you that back in November 2019, the former governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, along with conductor Valery Gergiev, presented sketches prepared by the world-renowned bureau Zaha Hadid Architects. The concert hall for 2,300 seats in the center of Yekaterinburg was supposed to be completed by 2023, that is, by the 300th anniversary of the capital of the Urals. However, the deadlines were shifted due to the pandemic, and then due to the special operation. Complying with sanctions, the bureau Zaha Hadid Architects left the country.
The project was revived in 2024, allocating 300 million rubles for it. In 2025, 600 million was allocated from the regional budget, and the following year — 700 million. However, later Denis Pasler canceled the tender for the new philharmonic in Yekaterinburg.
