A Yekaterinburg resident caught in bribery under a female name had previously attended a reception at the Kremlin.
A former teacher of the Ural Railway Technical School, Yuri Cherkashin, who was found guilty of corruption, was among the participants of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin in 2023, reports 66.RU.
Yuri Cherkashin was a mentor at the All-Russian Championship in Professional Skills "Professionals," whose participants were received by the President of Russia in the Kremlin in December 2023.
"At that time, the teacher from Yekaterinburg began taking bribes," writes 66.RU.
The head of state met with the winners and mentors of the championship.
"In the past, I worked as an electric locomotive driver, participated in professional skill competitions, and even won some," Cherkashin told about himself during the meeting with the Russian president. Together with the mentor in the Kremlin was his protégé, who won the championship in the "Locomotive Management" competency.
The total amount of income illegally received by the former teacher from students in the form of bribes for assistance in passing exams and preparing graduation qualification works amounted to 180,000 rubles, writes 66.RU. For the sake of concealment, Cherkashin created a business account in WhatsApp* (*the messenger belongs to the American platform Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia) under the name "Elena Urgups," the press service of the Sverdlovsk region courts reported.
The court fined the defendant Cherkashin, accused under the article "Receiving a Bribe by a Public Official," 1.5 million rubles and prohibited him from engaging in teaching activities for 4 years.
