A case of negligence has been opened regarding the registration of 57 "invisible" individuals in the apartment of a resident of Yekaterinburg.

      A criminal case of negligence has been initiated in Yekaterinburg following media reports of the illegal registration of citizens at a place of residence, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reported on Monday.

      "Recently, a number of media outlets published information that more than 50 citizens were registered in the apartment of a Yekaterinburg resident without her consent. In this regard, according to media reports, the woman began to receive significantly inflated utility bills," the agency's statement said.

      Based on this fact, the investigative department for the Verkh-Isetsky district of Yekaterinburg has opened a criminal case under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence).

      A range of activities is being conducted to establish all the circumstances of the incident, gather and secure evidence. The causes and conditions that contributed to the situation in which the rights of the property owner were grossly violated are also being determined.

      Earlier, the head of the Central Election Commission of the United Russia party, Alexander Sidyakin, requested the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia to investigate the situation regarding the registration of 57 residents of Ingushetia in the "two-room" apartment of a Yekaterinburg resident without her knowledge in accordance with the law.
