In Krasnoturinsk, police and investigators are establishing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 10-year-old schoolgirl who drowned while swimming in the city pond.

The tragedy occurred on the afternoon of June 17. According to "KP-Ekaterinburg," the third grader went to the water body with two friends. Due to the intense heat, the girls decided to swim and began jumping into the water from a pontoon.

At some point, the girl disappeared underwater and did not resurface. Her friends immediately called their parents and asked for help. Volunteers from the local rescue team, led by Oksana Yakimova, arrived at the scene.

It was she who found the girl by the shore. According to preliminary information, the child had been underwater for about 20-30 minutes. Despite resuscitation efforts, the schoolgirl could not be saved.

According to Oksana Yakimova, warning signs prohibiting swimming have been installed in the city, but children still come to the water bodies during hot weather. She also noted that the schoolgirl could not swim.

Following the incident, the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under the article "Causing death by negligence."
