The Sverdlovsk deputy did not support the idea of banning migrants from working in public transport.
Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region Vyacheslav Wegner spoke out against the idea of banning migrants from working as bus drivers. Instead of restrictions, he proposed to strengthen control over drivers' work using artificial intelligence technologies.
According to the parliamentarian, special cameras can record violations during trips, such as using a mobile phone while driving, and transmit information to the dispatch center.
— If we see that the driver is distracted by the phone, let's block the engine. Or we can announce a fine of 100,000 rubles over the loudspeaker. If the driver works more than 8 hours, the engine will be blocked. The employer will face a fine of 15 days, Wegner stated on the air of the OTV channel.
The deputy believes that a ban on migrants working in public transport could lead to a shortage of staff. According to him, the industry is already experiencing a shortage of drivers today. The issue of tightening requirements for migrant drivers is actively discussed following the traffic accident that occurred on June 10 at the intersection of 8 Marta and Malysheva streets in Yekaterinburg. At that time, the driver of bus route No. 81 drove into a group of pedestrians. As a result of the accident, four people died.
