The mayor of Orel spoke about plans to extend the metro in Yekaterinburg.
The head of Yekaterinburg, Alexey Orlov, explained the reasons for preparing the feasibility study (FS) for the development of the metro system. According to him, the previous plans for constructing the second line of the metro no longer correspond to the modern conditions of the city's development.
In a conversation with "Signal Ural," the mayor noted that in recent years, the directions of residential construction have changed, so one of the priority options may be to extend the existing metro line to the north.
— This will be a northern direction that is actively developing; only two stations are planned there, but nevertheless, it will significantly alleviate serious transport problems, Orlov stated.
According to the city head, the FS should determine the most effective direction for the development of the subway, taking into account the projected passenger flow and the pace of housing construction.
According to the technical specifications, the contractor is to develop a project for extending the first metro line to the north—from the Prospekt Kosmonavtov station to the prospective Severny station. In addition, the contractor must present at least three options for the routing of the new line and calculate the projected passenger flow.
