Doctors saved the hand of a resident of Sverdlovsk after a blow to the ocean floor in India.
A woman from Sverdlovsk who suffered a shoulder injury in India underwent rehabilitation at a hospital in the Ural capital. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Health.
— I decided to try to overcome the difficult life situation I found myself in through a retreat and went to India. After a yoga session with friends, we went swimming in the ocean. I stepped into the water and didn’t notice how a huge wave rose behind me, swept me up, and slammed me down. After that, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder blade and shoulder, and my left arm became completely immobile, — Natalia Kuevda told the agency's press service.
Examinations revealed damage to the left brachial plexus in the patient. To restore the functions of her arm, a complex surgery with nerve tissue transplantation was performed. A month after the surgery, the girl began her first course of rehabilitation, and a few weeks later, the second. The expected rapid progress did not occur: her arm remained immobile. At the clinic where she lived, doctors suggested undergoing restorative treatment at the Central City Hospital No. 6 in Yekaterinburg. Natalia learned to perform the simplest actions again: using a set of exercises, a course of muscle electrical stimulation, and pneumatic compression to improve blood circulation and lymph flow. Thanks to several sessions, the pain syndrome decreased, and minimal mobility in her left arm appeared. Previously, doctors had removed a cyst the size of a watermelon from the 20-year-old Yekaterinburg resident.
