A large-scale renovation of the square near the railway station has begun in Yekaterinburg.
In Yekaterinburg, a comprehensive renovation of the railway station square has begun - one of the main transport hubs of the city.
As reported by the first deputy head of Yekaterinburg, Rustam Galyamov, the area had long needed reconstruction. Special attention was paid to two functions of the square during the project development: it must remain an important transport interchange hub for residents and guests of the city, as well as preserve its historical significance. The monument to the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps will still be located in the center of the public space, around which a modern and comfortable urban environment will be created.
At the same time, Galyamov noted, the project provides for the preservation of the usual transport logistics. After the work is completed, public transport routes, vehicle traffic, bike paths, parking, and convenient pedestrian connections will remain here.
Currently, part of the roadway is being dismantled, storm drainage is being repaired, the outdoor lighting system is being modernized, and the contact network is being upgraded. In the near future, contractors will begin laying tiles on the sidewalks.
In addition, surveillance cameras will be installed in the square, and large-scale landscaping will be carried out. More than 50 trees and shrubs are planned to be planted here.
The reconstruction is expected to be completed by September. After the improvement, the railway station square will become one of the main venues for the International Youth Festival.
During the construction work, the traffic scheme has been changed. A temporary stop for public transport has been organized in the center of the square, and pedestrian and vehicle flows have been separated.
