It became known which walls in Yekaterinburg will become art objects this year.
The International Street Art Festival "Stenography" officially opened its 17th season in Yekaterinburg.
In this season, the festival will maintain its usual formats while adding new directions. By mid-autumn, around 10 new art objects will appear in the city, and more than five iconic works from previous years will be restored. The team will also traditionally conduct free tours for residents and tourists.
In addition to murals, the festival will work with documentary films, comics, consumer art, custom items, and digital formats.
Co-founder and ideologist of the festival, Andrey Kolokolov, notes that today people increasingly express themselves through everyday objects. According to him, the festival intends to integrate art into the sphere of consumption, turning familiar items—from keyboards with custom keycaps to customized shoes—into objects of contemporary art and carriers of cultural meanings. The first projects in this direction will be related to Ural identity and local cultural codes.
Festival director Anna Klets emphasizes that Yekaterinburg has a strong identity, but residents currently have few items through which it can be expressed. According to her, the team wants to rethink Ural aesthetics and make it recognizable far beyond the region. One of the first steps will be the creation of a comic about Yekaterinburg and its street art.
