Scientists have determined why the Sverdlovsk region continues to be flooded.
Professor of the Geography Department at Perm State National Research University Andrey Shikhov stated that the cause of the record thunderstorm activity in the Sverdlovsk region during the summer of 2026 was the peculiarities of atmospheric circulation. The fact is that cyclones dominate over the region, and warm and humid air is constantly flowing into the territory.
— High humidity also contributes to the formation of tornadoes, — the professor's words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Recall that a powerful tornado occurred in Kushva several weeks ago, resulting in 21 people injured and 32 houses completely destroyed. An analysis of satellite images revealed several more tornadoes in the area. The total area of forest felled on June 22 exceeded 1,500 hectares.
