The family of the coatis Leila and Lelika from the Yekaterinburg Zoo has become a gang (PHOTO)

      A joyful event has occurred at the Yekaterinburg Zoo: the family of coatis has welcomed new additions. The babies of caring Leila and handsome Lelika were born on May 7, 2025. "Three little sons and a darling daughter were born," the press service of the Yekaterinburg Zoo reported.

      Since then, no one in the enclosure sits still. "Races, tag, cheerful squeaks, and mom's upbringing - the daily life of a large family in all its glory! They also rest together - comfortably curling up in their hammock," the zoo staff shared.

      The coatis have an excellent appetite, so they grow very quickly, noted the staff. The menu for the little predators from the raccoon family includes fruits (apples, pears, cherries), vegetables, meat, nuts, and peanuts. For dessert - their favorite apple jam.

      Unlike many other raccoons that lead a nocturnal lifestyle, coatis are active during the day. Females with their young live in groups called "bands." Sometimes there can be up to 40 individuals in one "band." Males, however, join the group only during the mating season, and at other times lead a solitary life.
