An electrician from Kamensk-Uralsky will be held accountable for smuggling potent tablets.
A criminal case has been initiated against a previously law-abiding local resident for the facts of smuggling potent substances, namely medications that are dispensed strictly by prescription, which will be considered by the Krasnogorsk District Court of Kamensk-Uralsky, as reported by the press service of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Ural Federal District.
The 49-year-old resident of Kamensk-Uralsky, who works as an electrician at one of the local industrial enterprises, is accused of smuggling potent substances. The man was detained in September of last year by officers of the Transport Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Ural Federal District and representatives of the Ural Operational Customs as he was exiting a post office in Kamensk-Uralsky. The suspect received a package from abroad containing 450 capsules (with a total weight of 222 grams) of pregabalin. During a search of his residence, operatives discovered an additional 73.4 grams of pregabalin and 4.7 grams of etizolam.
In the same post office, transport police found another 598 tablets (weighing 186 grams) containing the psychotropic substance modafinil. The recipient was also listed as the suspect. Additionally, the suspect stored 1.5 grams of a similar substance in his personal vehicle.
All of the aforementioned medications are dispensed exclusively by prescription, are subject to itemized accounting, and their free circulation on the territory of the Russian Federation is restricted. It has been established that from November 2024 to September 2025, the resident of Sverdlovsk region repeatedly ordered these potent substances for personal use through a foreign online store, arranging for delivery via regular postal service. In the package card, he requested the sender to indicate that the package contained vitamins and gifts.
The citizen was aware that the free circulation of the seized substances was restricted, recognized the illegal nature of his actions, and sincerely confessed to the committed acts. The man is accused of smuggling potent substances weighing no less than 296 grams and of smuggling, sending, and illegal possession of 188 grams of psychotropic substances (Articles 226.1, 229.1, 228, 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The investigation within the framework of eight (!) criminal cases (later consolidated into one proceeding) was conducted by the investigative unit of the Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the Yekaterinburg-Passenger station. Currently, the investigation has been completed, and the materials have been sent to the Krasnogorsk District Court of Kamensk-Uralsky.
