In Aramil, traffic police detained a driver who fatally struck a 42-year-old man on an electric bicycle and fled the scene of the accident. The incident occurred on the evening of August 4 on 1 May Street.
According to preliminary data, the driver of the car hit the cyclist, who was moving in the same direction along the right edge of the roadway. After the collision, the driver did not stop, did not call emergency services, and left the scene. The man died from his injuries at the scene before the ambulance arrived.
During operational search activities, police found and detained the suspected perpetrator of the accident. He turned out to be a 59-year-old resident of Aramil, driving a Kia Sorento.
According to the traffic police, the man had previously been deprived of his driver's license for driving under the influence. At the time of the accident, he did not have a valid driver's license. A breathalyzer test showed that the driver was intoxicated: the alcohol content in his exhaled air was 0.746 mg/l.
According to the detained individual, he noticed the cyclist too late and could not avoid the collision.
A criminal case has been initiated against the man under part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The investigation is ongoing.
