A resident of Yekaterinburg, who was not diagnosed with cancer in time, sued the doctors for one million rubles.

On Thursday, August 13, the Kirov District Court of Yekaterinburg issued a ruling on the lawsuit of local resident Tatyana Firstova against the Yekaterinburg Clinical Perinatal Center, the City Clinical Hospital No. 1, and the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region. The day after giving birth, the woman learned that she had stage four ovarian cancer, which doctors had previously mistaken for a cyst, reports "KP-Yekaterinburg."

Tatyana met her future husband in 2020. She was 40, and Pavel was 38. The couple decided to become parents two years later, but they were unable to conceive naturally, so they turned to the Clinical Institute of Reproductive Medicine for IVF. Pregnancy occurred only on the fourth attempt—in January 2024. The pregnancy was complicated. During the pregnancy, Tatyana lost 10 kilograms.

The day after the cesarean section, Tatyana was informed that she had stage four ovarian cancer. This was revealed by the histology of the removed tumor, which had initially been mistaken for a multifollicular cyst, writes "KP-Yekaterinburg."

For a year, Tatyana litigated against the medical institutions where she underwent examinations and was monitored during the preparation for IVF and her pregnancy.

The forensic medical examination revealed defects in the provision of medical care. For instance, during the pregnancy planning stage in 2022, an ultrasound detected a neoplasm measuring 11 mm. The doctors concluded at that time that it was a small cyst, while according to the expert's conclusion, it was a primary focus of a malignant tumor—a serous carcinoma.

Additionally, according to the experts' conclusion, the medical staff allowed the woman to undergo hormonal stimulation without the necessary examinations in such cases, despite the presence of a risk factor—breast cancer in her mother, which Tatyana had informed them about.

On Thursday, August 13, the Kirov District Court granted Tatyana Firstova's claim for moral compensation. The exact amount of compensation was not specified by the plaintiff. The court, on its own initiative, awarded her one million rubles, which the Yekaterinburg Clinical Perinatal Center and City Clinical Hospital No. 1 are to pay in equal shares, as well as a total of one million in favor of her husband and son.

      — That is, the total compensation for the family amounted to 2 million. We plan to appeal the court's decision, — said the woman's lawyer Valeria Mirfasolova. In Tatyana's opinion, this is nothing for the broken life of her family, lost health, and the inability to have more children.
