"Try to live on a pension": Ural residents stood up in defense of street vendors

      In Chelyabinsk, since the beginning of the year, 529 fines have been issued to illegal street vendors totaling nearly three million rubles. Such raids are regularly conducted in many Ural cities, but not all local residents are satisfied with the crackdown on sellers. For example, during another raid with the head of the city’s control and coordination of urban improvement department, Valeria Kaftyreva, in the Lenin district, both ordinary residents and street vendors expressed their outrage at the bans. Upon seeing police officers, some managed to gather their goods and leave. Protocols were drawn up for the remaining vendors.

      At the same time, passersby actively defended the vendors, trying to protect them in front of the inspectors.

      — People have nothing to live on, and they conduct raids, — commented one of the men passing by.

      — Everything is for the people! Where can ordinary people, pensioners buy cheap vegetables? Everything in stores is overpriced. These vendors don’t bother anyone. It’s convenient for us to come and buy here, — complained a local resident.
