An athlete from the Sverdlovsk region died while saving a girl on a paddleboard.
Denis Gribakho, a native of Kamensk-Uralsky, died in Crimea while saving a girl who was swept away by the sea during a storm. The tragedy occurred on August 29 at the Frunze beach in the Saki district. The circumstances of the incident were described by a close friend of the deceased's family, Marina, to "KP-Ekaterinburg."
According to her, on that day Denis was at work. Around 4:00 PM, he noticed a girl on a paddleboard in the sea, being carried away from the shore by the waves. The man rushed to help her. Denis swam to the girl and helped her get onto the paddleboard, after which he began to push it towards the shore. According to Marina, there were about 30 meters left to dry land. The man managed to bring the girl to an area where the waves had already started to push her towards the shore. However, he himself could not get out of the water.
— It’s possible he had a cramp, but he just went under. They searched for him for two days with divers. He was found on Monday morning in the same place where he drowned, — Marina said.
The rescued girl, according to eyewitnesses, was not seriously injured and was able to leave home on her own. Gribakho moved from the Sverdlovsk region to Crimea several years ago. There he was engaged in business and, together with his wife and friends, developed a café on Frunze beach. In the 2000s, he played football for "Sinara" as a forward. In 2010, he was recognized as one of the leaders of the Sverdlovsk region championship. In Crimea, Denis played hockey as part of the Night Hockey League team.
