More than 5-7 seconds — refuse. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate explained the rules for safe overtaking.
"Every time you decide to overtake or cross into the oncoming lane, you are playing Russian roulette," writes the Sverdlovsk State Traffic Safety Inspectorate Telegram channel. And it explains why this is deadly dangerous.

By choosing a risky overtaking maneuver, a person puts not only their own life at risk but also others'. Especially at night and in poor visibility. "What seems like an empty road can become the last thing you see in a second," warns the Traffic Safety Inspectorate.
— "A head-on collision at 80 km/h corresponds to falling from the 12th storey."
You also need to consider blind spots — a car can be hidden behind a turn, a truck, or in bright sunlight. "Even if you have successfully overtaken 100 times on this stretch, the 101st can be the last."
How to avoid a fatal mistake if you still decide to overtake? "Count the seconds. If it takes more than 5-7 seconds to pass, refuse. It is an extremely dangerous maneuver," the reminder states.
Better to be late than not to arrive, remind traffic inspectors. "An extra 5 minutes on the road is nothing compared to the years you could spend with your family."
