“The children's mother worked as a doctor in one of Yekaterinburg’s hospitals. According to preliminary information, the family in which the tragedy occurred was characterized positively; they were not registered with the police juvenile affairs unit (PDN), nor were they on psychiatric records. The older child had moved up to the third grade and was doing well at school, the younger girl attended kindergarten,” Colonel Gorelykh noted.
The regional prosecutor’s office has opened its own inquiry into the incident. During supervisory activities, the prosecutor’s office will check compliance with the requirements of legislation on the protection of the life and health of minors.
Earlier, Valery Gorelykh said that the children's grandmother raised the alarm, reporting that their mother suffered from depression. After the door of the apartment in the building on Bardina Street was forced open, three bodies were found — the woman and her two children. According to a preliminary version, the mother killed the 9-year-old boy and the 3-year-old girl, after which she took her own life.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of two or more persons, including minors).
