Yekaterinburg has begun disbanding classes due to a shortage of teachers.
Primary school classes have begun to be disbanded in Yekaterinburg due to a staffing shortage.
"Our class has been without a homeroom teacher for the second year. Teachers keep changing all the time. One teacher leads some lessons, another leads others. They promised to find a homeroom teacher over the summer, but they couldn't. Moreover, another class in the same year group was left without a teacher and it was decided to disband it. Now there are 34 children in each class," parents told the EAN publication.
The Yekaterinburg administration said the situation arose because teachers went on maternity leave.
"The school is located in a local neighborhood remote from the city center; most of the teachers are residents of that area. In 2025 three primary school teachers went on maternity leave, and two changed their place of residence because they got married," the mayor's office replied.
They said the school administration is making efforts to resolve the staffing problem. This year three primary school teachers were hired. In the cohort of third-grade classes, trainee teachers with the first and highest qualification categories are working. Students from the disbanded class were redistributed taking parents' opinions into account.
It was previously reported that Sverdlovsk Oblast lacks almost 300 teachers.
