Residents of Sverdlovsk should prepare for a strong geomagnetic storm caused by a solar flare.
Residents of Sverdlovsk should prepare for a strong geomagnetic storm that will hit Earth by September 2. This is the forecast given by specialists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).
— According to data from the space coronagraphs LASCO and CCOR-1, a solar plasma ejection toward Earth has been confirmed. The trajectory and angular size of the plasma cloud rule out the possibility of it passing by the planet. Preliminary estimates indicate the solar material will reach Earth's orbit on September 2, causing geomagnetic storms at levels G2–G4 (moderate to strong), the laboratory reported on its Telegram channel.
Experts fear further ejections toward Earth. The likelihood of this outcome is high due to the Sun's large overall reserves of flare energy, writes Ura.Ru.
Recall that in early August Sverdlovsk residents were struck by the most powerful geomagnetic storm in recent months.
