A resident of Yekaterinburg saved a young girl from a recidivist rapist on a bicycle.

In Yekaterinburg a passerby saved a 21-year-old woman from a rapist, reports "KP‑Yekaterinburg."

The attack occurred at 35 Miasskaya Street (Uktus), the publication reports. At around 3:00 AM the woman was walking home alone when an unknown man emerged from the darkness and struck her from behind with a wrench, then dragged her into the bushes. Fortunately for her, a passerby happened to be nearby at the time.

"The woman did not panic and began to scream. A man passing by heard her. He scared off the attacker, who hurried away toward Shcherbakova Street on a bicycle," a source familiar with the situation told "KP‑Yekaterinburg."

The woman, who sustained a traumatic brain injury, is receiving outpatient treatment. After being examined at the hospital she identified the attacker, who was detained shortly thereafter. He turned out to be a 37-year-old general laborer from Nizhny Tagil.

The man had previously been convicted multiple times: for robbery, thefts, attacks on law enforcement officers and vehicle theft. He was last released in 2024. He does not admit guilt in the attack on the woman.

According to a source at "KP‑Yekaterinburg," the Investigative Committee has already opened a criminal case under paragraph "b" of part 2 of Article 132 of the Russian Criminal Code ("violent sexual actions resulting in grievous bodily harm").

Recall that in October last year the Sverdlovsk Regional Court sentenced Kamensk‑Uralsky resident Eduard Golikov, who tried to rape and then killed a 16-year-old girl. The victim was walking home alone from the station late in the evening, and Golikov had been following her from a distance on a bicycle for some time until they found themselves in a deserted place. The girl screamed, and the rapist strangled her. The court sentenced Golikov to 21 years in a maximum-security penal colony.
