"We're expecting an Indian summer." Sheporenko issued a forecast that warm weather will return in a few days.
In the central part of Russia it's Indian summer these days, but since Sverdlovsk Oblast is located on the far eastern periphery of that anticyclone, it's still cold here. But warmth will arrive here any moment now, promised Galina Sheporenko, the chief forecaster of the Ural Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, at a press conference in Yekaterinburg.
For now, northern winds are blowing across the region and an Arctic air mass is coming in, so it's rather cool. "The temperature is already below normal," the forecaster confirmed the impressions of Yekaterinburg residents.
In the next 24 hours — tonight and tomorrow daytime — more rain is expected, associated with another atmospheric front moving in from the north, and a new portion of cold air will arrive.
Therefore, frosts are expected at night in the northern part of the oblast in the coming days, on September 12–13.
"These will be the first autumn frosts. They will be short-lived; after September 13 the air will begin to warm up, and the anticyclone from the European territory will shift closer to the Urals.
And one can already say that, roughly from September 12 to 22, there will be favorable weather with no precipitation, a good deal of sunshine, and light winds.
Nighttime temperatures will be around +7 to +10 °C, daytime +17–20 °C. That's 2–3 degrees above normal. One could say that Indian summer will set in," promised Galina Andriyanovna.
