Residents of Yekaterinburg complained about schools in Solnechny that are several times over capacity.
In Solnechny, parents have been collecting signatures for a petition calling for the construction of a new school for several weeks. The thing is, this neighborhood has only two schools — No. 215 and the Governor’s Lyceum. Solnechny is being built up too quickly, but not with hospitals, kindergartens or schools.
Parents began collecting signatures in early August. By the end of the summer it became clear that the school and the lyceum could not admit all the children who wanted to enroll, even those registered in the area. The authorities then decided to open three additional first-grade classes: one at School No. 215 and two at the Governor’s Lyceum, reports the E1.RU portal.
School No. 215 currently has 2,929 students, while the building’s design capacity was calculated at just 1,000. The Governor’s Lyceum can accommodate a maximum of 1,200 pupils, and 1,600 are already studying there.
The Sverdlovsk prosecutor’s office has already acknowledged that the schools are indeed overcrowded, which violates SanPiN requirements.
At the same time, new buildings continue to be completed in Solnechny, so locals expect the situation to only worsen next school year.
“We, the parents of children at the Governor’s Lyceum, are against increasing the student body. It is already losing its status as a full-day school; teachers are working double shifts. The Russian Minister of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, visited the lyceum. He said that this is one of the unique projects in our country — free clubs and sections — but they keep adding places,” one mother told E1.RU.
The Ministry of Education of the Sverdlovsk Region said that the construction of a school in Solnechny is already planned. According to the list of capital construction projects, it should be built by 2027. It will be School No. 3 with a capacity for 1,200 students on Champions Street.
We previously reported on the difficult situation in Solnechny in July.
