In Yekaterinburg, a children's hockey team was refused permission to take to the ice.

In Yekaterinburg, teenagers from the hockey team "Krasnye Krylya" were deprived of the opportunity to take part in competitions and to practice sports. The boys trained at the Avtomobilist school base and were supposed to play in the Russian Junior Championship in the autumn.

According to the portal E1.RU, the sports school did not submit in time an application to create the municipal assignment for forming a Youth Hockey League (YHL) team for the 2025/2026 season. The deadlines for the training contracts also came due, which put the students at risk of being expelled. The school also got a new director.

"The former director promised that it would participate in the YHL. He said he was doing everything possible for that and that the boys would continue to play, but he left. He didn't hand over his responsibilities to the new director, even though the documents were supposed to be submitted to the YHL in May," the mother of one of the hockey players told E1.RU.

The Yekaterinburg mayor's office allowed the team to be completed, and on August 19 a reply from the prosecutor's office arrived saying that the young hockey players had been expelled unlawfully and that the school was obliged to re-enroll them by August 20. However, only 12 of the 21 boys were enrolled; among those enrolled were two goalkeepers, and the team cannot play with only two five-man units — at least three are needed.

Director Dmitry Ustyuzhanin told 66.RU that the teenagers went through selection — after the second testing they managed to assemble a team of 12 people because some submitted their medical certificates late.

The parents went to the local branch of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) in Yekaterinburg — there they sought help from the federation's main branch, and the federation, in turn, appealed to the Russian Ministry of Sport.

Earlier, in a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, a 14-year-old teenager died during a hockey practice.
