Residents of the Urals were warned about a new scam involving online marketplaces. To do this, scammers call the user, posing as representatives of the marketplaces, and say that an item has arrived in their name and that they now need to confirm its receipt.
To be convincing they may give the person's surname, first name and patronymic and the address where they usually have deliveries sent. If the person says they didn't order anything, the scammers insist the item was purchased by one of their acquaintances as a gift, the press service of the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia told the portal E1.RU.
Then, supposedly to confirm the date and place of delivery, the scammers ask the person to provide the code from an SMS message. If they do this, the scammers will be able to gain access to the victim's mobile banking.
Security expert of the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia Alexander Salnikov advised people to hang up on any suspicious calls.
Earlier in Yekaterinburg a "college director" tricked a 20‑year‑old woman out of almost one million rubles.
