A military court in Yekaterinburg decided the fate of Udmurtia resident Evgenia Rogozina*
24 September 2025 The Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg on Tuesday, 23 September handed down a sentence to Mozhga resident Evgenia Rogozina* (*included in Rosfinmonitoring’s list of terrorists and extremists), accused under the article on calls for terrorist activity for her comment on VKontakte.
Under the court’s verdict Rogozina, charged under part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public calls to commit terrorist activity using the Internet”), must pay a fine of 310,000 rubles. She is also prohibited for two years from administering websites on the Internet, reports the EAN agency.
The lenient sentence for the 38-year-old Udmurt resident was commented on by the Ombudsperson for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Oblast Tatiana Merzlyakova, who, together with Moscow human rights activists, Marina Akhmedova (a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights and a journalist) and the head of the Council Valery Fadeev, applied all efforts to ensure the woman was not punished disproportionately harshly.
“Public opinion was unequivocal — she should not receive a prison term,” Tatiana Georgievna told EAN.
“I am very grateful to the head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights under the President of Russia, Valery Alexandrovich Fadeev, who, unlike some officials, supported me. I am grateful to the people of Sverdlovsk who worried about Rogozina. There was even an occasion — I was in a taxi and the driver said, ‘Won’t they really release this girl?’ He recognized me and knows about this story, he was worried,” the ombudsperson told EAN.
The Sverdlovsk human rights activist noted the special role in this story of the editor-in-chief of IA Regnum, member of the Presidential Council Marina Akhmedova. It was she who made known to all of Russia the story of the woman who ended up in pre-trial detention over a comment about the rise in butter prices. Rogozina, it should be recalled, used an Internet meme addressed to Russia’s Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut.
“Three conclusions from this story — our public opinion matters. Our Sverdlovsk media can unite in a single opinion when it concerns human rights. We have a fair court. We have a position of the prosecutor’s office that listens to people. And a lesson for all of us: to think when we write on the networks,” Tatiana Georgievna wrote on her VKontakte page.

“Results of the week” with Olga Maslova: 21–25 July
All week long Russian citizens were occupied with domestic matters — worrying about the possibility of continuing to use their usual messenger (both options apply — WhatsApp and Telegram) and recalling Orwell with his Big Brother. From gloomy reflections on their fate we were unexpectedly distracted by another Ukrainian Maidan.
