The sentence for former Yekaterinburg-Expo director Igor Danilov has been reduced.

The Sverdlovsk Regional Court reduced the sentence of the former director of JSC “Ural Exhibition Center,” Igor Danilov, which had been handed down in July by the Lenin District Court of Yekaterinburg.

The trial court found the defendant guilty under Part 4 of Article 160 (Embezzlement or misappropriation… committed by an organized group or on a particularly large scale) and Part 1 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Abuse of official powers).

As the court found, as general director Igor Danilov was authorized to dispose of the property and funds of JSC “Ural Exhibition Center” for their intended purposes in accordance with the types of activity. The organization’s funds were appropriated by him in the period from January 2019 to December 2021 and from January 2022 to May 2023.

Danilov withdrew money from the organization’s corporate card and transferred it to his own bank cards through an intermediary who was unaware of his criminal intent, and spent it on personal needs.

In order to conceal the embezzlement, in September 2019 Danilov concluded a loan agreement and provided himself, as a private individual, with funds at interest. The said agreement was subsequently extended. To date Danilov has returned the company the full loan amount with interest under the agreement.

By his actions Danilov caused the organization material damage totaling more than 13 million rubles.

The Lenin District Court of Yekaterinburg sentenced Igor Danilov to 5 years’ imprisonment suspended with a probation period of 5 years and a fine of 800,000 rubles.

The verdict was appealed by the convicted man’s lawyer and by the prosecutor. Having reviewed the case materials, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court amended the lower court’s verdict by removing from it Part 1 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code (Abuse of official powers).

Danilov is now considered convicted only under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code (Embezzlement). He was sentenced to 4.5 years’ imprisonment, suspended with a probation period of 4.5 years, and fined 800,000 rubles.

Recall that Igor Danilov left the post of general director of JSC “Ural Exhibition Center” in early June 2023. “Many negative rumors about me have appeared recently, which significantly destabilize the work of the team. And I am, frankly, tired of them,” the manager then explained his departure. It became known only in November 2024 that a criminal case had been opened against him.
