
In Yekaterinburg, a kidnapper was convicted of treason.
The sentence in the treason case was announced on Friday, October 3, at the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.
Yekaterinburg resident Konstantin Markov is accused of transmitting, for monetary compensation, personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation to Ukrainian intelligence services, which could subsequently be used in the interests of the intelligence services of foreign states.
The court found Markov guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("State treason").
In the spring of last year Markov was convicted by the Sverdlovsk Regional Court of kidnapping and extortion.
Taking into account the totality of the crimes, Konstantin Markov was ultimately sentenced to 13 years in a strict-regime penal colony with a fine of 320,000 rubles and a subsequent restriction of freedom for 2 years.
The sentence will come into legal force in 15 days if not appealed by the parties.
