The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region detailed the arrest by criminal investigators of two local residents suspected of murdering 38‑year‑old Yekaterinburg resident Marat Gainetdinov, who went missing at the end of September.

As the head of the regional interior ministry press service, Valeriy Gorelykh, reported, at 03:30 on September 29 the duty unit of the Novaya Lyalya police department received a report from the missing man’s relatives. They said their relative had driven a passenger car to the town of Verkhoturye and then disappeared.

"Criminal investigators, during search operations in a forested area near the village of Novaya Tura, soon found the said car and its owner with no signs of life. During the course of the operation, Interior Ministry personnel were able to trace and detain two suspects, one of whom turned out to be an officer of the local State Traffic Inspectorate.

He was immediately suspended from his duties. He will be dismissed from the internal affairs bodies on negative grounds in the near future and, together with the other suspect, will face punishment in accordance with the law," Colonel Gorelykh noted.

The investigation continues. The Investigative Committee had earlier reported that one of the two accused in the murder turned out to be an officer of the State Traffic Inspectorate.
