It has become known how the bridge on Malysheva Street in Yekaterinburg might be reconstructed and altered.
The first sketch of the reconstruction of the Malyshevsky Bridge in Yekaterinburg has provoked mixed reactions among specialists. City authorities intend to widen the overpass to ease traffic between the center and the ZhBI district, but some experts believe the root of the transport problems lies not in the interchange but in the narrow carriageway of Malysheva Street, which can no longer cope with the volume of cars.
"If you look at the traffic jams, then before reaching the interchange drivers have to sit in queues at the Malysheva–Vostochnaya, Malysheva–Gagarina, Malysheva–Mira, Mira–Komsomolskaya sections. Only after that does traffic become freer," one specialist explained. E1.RU reports: "Yes, the interchange is not perfect and some flows are organized via U‑turns, but the main problem is the limited capacity of the street. Therefore the reconstruction of the bridge may not have a noticeable effect."
However, there are other points of view. The developers of the first working sketch propose not only to widen the overpass but also to add new ramps. This, they believe, will help unload the bridge and speed up traffic toward the ZhBI and the Novo‑Sverdlovskaya thermal power plant. The new ramps will help redistribute traffic flows and make routes more convenient. Right now, for example, motorists heading from the center toward the Sibirsky Trakt face difficulties — there is no suitable exit at all. After the reconstruction one may appear.
In addition, the designers propose creating a rise from the Yegorshinsky approach onto Malysheva Street in the direction of the center. Judging by the sketches, the tram tracks will remain on the existing bridge — they will not be moved to a separate flyover. The development of working documentation is planned to begin in 2026, after which the project can be implemented.
Experts note that there is practically no free space in this part of the city to build an additional tram bridge, so most likely the current overpass will be widened. According to city hall representatives, the reconstruction of the bridge is necessary not only to solve current transport problems but also taking into account the future development of Yekaterinburg’s eastern districts. The current structure is operating at its limit and no longer meets modern requirements.
