Residents of Yekaterinburg are causing crushes on buses due to the lack of trams.
Residents of the ZhBI microdistrict are forced to get to work in overcrowded buses after tram services were suspended. There are not enough places on the transport, and many have to wait for the next run.
A reader of E1.RU, Anastasia, reported the situation, filming a video on the morning of October 23 at the "Kirovsky Supermarket" stop on Syromolotova Street. The footage shows dozens of passengers trying to board bus No. 61, which runs from ZhBI through the city center to Pekhotintsev Street. However, it is impossible to fit everyone who wants to get on — some people remain at the stop.
— "Where are you trying to squeeze in? You won't get on anyway! You'll crush the child!" — a woman with a boy warns an elderly passenger.
— "And how am I supposed to get to work?" — she replies.
In the end both remain to wait for the next bus.
The video's author is outraged:
— "Where are the 18 buses of route 61 at ZhBI?"
The press service of the Yekaterinburg mayor's office said that all 18 buses are indeed operating on the line. However, they admitted that bus service cannot fully replace the tram.
— "Trams are temporarily not running, but service will be restored on Monday, and the situation will normalize," the city administration said.
